Edge Intelligence for Sustainable Smart Environments: Convergence of Ubiquitous Computing, AI, and Green Infrastructure--------- [Special Issue - EISSE]
Aims and Scope The rapid proliferation of smart devices, sensors, and connected infrastructures has created dynamic digital ecosystems where computing is increasingly distributed across devices, networks, and environments. The convergence of artificial intelligence, edge computing, ubiquitous sensing, and green computing is enabling intelligent systems with autonomous decision-making, adaptive resource management, and context-aware services. Edge intelligence, which brings machine learning and data processing closer to data sources, can reduce latency, enhance privacy, and minimize energy-intensive cloud communication. It has become an important enabler for sustainable applications in smart cities, intelligent transportation, healthcare, industrial IoT, and other emerging domains. However, challenges remain in energy-efficient AI deployment, privacy preservation, scalable sensor data management, and intelligent resource allocation across heterogeneous infrastructures. Addressing these challenges requires interdisciplinary approaches spanning computing, artificial intelligence, data science, engineering, and sustainability. This Special Issue invites innovative research on edge intelligence and convergence computing for sustainable smart environments, including novel architectures, algorithms, systems, and applications that integrate ubiquitous sensing, intelligent computing, and green computing to advance next-generation smart infrastructures and services. Topics of Interest This Special Issue welcomes original research and review papers covering theoretical advances, system architectures, and real-world applications related to intelligent, ubiquitous, and sustainable computing systems.
